What is included in a general service
A General Service (or Basic Cleaning) is the usual maintenance job you do every few months. It focuses on cleaning the dirtiest parts to keep the air flowing and the water draining.
What the general service includes:
- Filter Wash: The mesh filters are removed, washed, and dried to remove trapped dust.
- Coil and Blower Cleaning: The cooling coils and the fan inside the unit are cleaned using brushes and a soft rinse to improve airflow.
- Drain Pipe Flush: The technician flushes the water pipe to remove the slime and dirt that cause water to drip from your indoor unit. This is the most important step to prevent leaks!
- System Check: The technician checks the cooling gas pressure and makes sure the unit is running smoothly.

Why is regular aircon service needed in Singapore?
In short: Singapore’s environment is a perfect home for dirt, mold, and rust.
- High Humidity: Our air is full of moisture. When hot, humid air passes through the cold aircon coils, it creates a lot of water (condensation). This constant wetness, combined with dust, creates mold and slime very fast inside the unit.
- Dust and Pollution: Even if you keep your windows closed, fine dust gets pulled into your aircon. This dirt acts like food for the mould and quickly clogs the internal coils and drainage pipes.

When do you Chemical Wash for your aircon?
A Chemical Wash (or Chemical Overhaul) is a deep, intensive clean using special cleaning liquids. It is not done on a fixed schedule, but only when a basic clean is no longer enough.
How often? Generally, only once every 1 to 3 years, depending on how often you use it and how well you keep up with the basic cleaning.

When do you need to do gas top-up?
The gas (called refrigerant) in your aircon is sealed inside the system. It does not get “used up” like petrol in a car.
- The Rule: You should never need a gas top-up unless there is a leak in your system.
If the technician says you need a top-up, they must first find and fix the leak! Simply topping up the gas without fixing the leak is a waste of money, as the gas will escape again.
